Forum Title: Do I spend the extra money on this?
I am getting a new roof. Going with the GAF Timbberline Hd. I live near Raleigh NC. The roofer has said that I do not need the weatherwatch leak barrier on the entire house just the valleys as required by code. Is this correct? He said that it would probably be more beneficial to invest in Drip edge in this climate. Thoughts?

Putting ice and water shield on entire roof is a big mistake. Not knowing what kind of snow you get in your area doesn't help with answering this question. Being a Long island roofing contractor we put a custom bent 3x5 drip edge on all eaves, ice and water shield a minimum of 2ft past exterior walls and in all valleys and around all roof penetrations. We use synthetic felts on all of our roof also. If you are in a higher wind area I'd suggest asking you roofer about Owens Corning Duration.

Depending what your laws are in your state, i know some don't make it necessary. Most states have it as a requirement, so check your local regulations for underlayment and roofs. I would highly recommend getting some kind of underlaymentbecause it helps resist water from penetrating the plywood.
